Crushing the Curve: Illumination
As part of our virtual Covid season, Crushing the Curve, I artistic directed Illumination. Plays were written specifically for Zoom by the members of my Advanced Playwriting class (Priest, Flores, Allen, Rust, and Stubbs). They were directed by our student directors. Scenic Design was provided by the Scenic Design class. Students also served as production assistants, lighting, costume, and sound supervisors. We sought to explore the question of what the difference was between film and virtual theatre. To this end, our production was done live with audible stage management calls. After our initial performances in November of 2020, we were invited to remount the performance for the Region 8 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival-- one of 7 performances invited, the only one from Utah, and the only synchronous live performance. We were ultimately given national recognition for the Scenic Design and the Stage Managers.
